Doing Everything Right… and Still Feeling Stuck? It Might Be Pressure

Teen boy focused on his phone with his back to his mom as she tries to engage, reflecting the quiet pressure and disconnection many families experience.

Doing everything right… and still feeling stuck?

That’s what I see in so many of the parents and individuals of all ages and genders that I work with.

They’re showing up.
Doing what they’re supposed to do.
Trying hard to get it right.

And still… something feels off.

“Maybe I just don’t try so hard.”

That’s what a client said to me recently.

And in that moment, everything shifted.

Not because she gave up.

But because she finally stopped pushing so hard against herself.

When Effort Stops Working

Many of the women and parents I work with are doing everything “right.”

They’re:

  • Exercising regularly
  • Eating well
  • Following expert advice
  • Showing up for their families

And yet, they feel stuck.

So naturally, they think:
“I need to try harder.”

But more effort layered on top of pressure doesn’t create progress.

It creates burnout.

The Real Issue Isn’t Effort. It’s Pressure

Pressure sounds like motivation.

But it feels like:

  • Constant urgency
  • Never enough
  • Fear of getting it wrong

And over time, it disconnects you from your body, your needs, and your clarity.

What We Did Instead

We didn’t overhaul her life.

We simplified it.

Nutrition

  • 3 meals with protein, fat, and carbs
  • Add vegetables when possible
  • Let go of perfection

Awareness

  • Notice hunger vs. emotional eating
  • Pay attention without judgment

Movement

  • Match workouts to energy
  • Keep strength training consistent

Mindset

  • Practice “Three Positives” daily
  • Interrupt negative thought loops

Environment

  • Reduce noise from apps and conflicting advice

Why This Works

Because it brings you back to something most people have lost:

Clarity.

When you reduce pressure:

  • You think more clearly
  • You make better decisions for yourself (not according to others)
  • You reconnect with your body

And from there, change becomes easier and sustainable.

You’re not behind. You may just be carrying more pressure than you realize.

You’re likely in a season that requires a different approach.

Not more effort.

But less pressure.

Because you don’t need to lower your standards…

You just need a different way to reach them.

If This Resonates

I help parents navigate pressure—from  school, sports and achievement culture—
while untangling the quiet pressure they carry themselves:
to be a good parent, keep up, and figure out what’s next.

So they can support their child without adding more pressure—to them or themselves.
